MOLCT Contributes to High Standard Training for Bangladesh Seafarers

On 22 Feb 2017, International Maritime Academy (IMA), a leading private Maritime Training Institute located in Dhaka, celebrated one more milestone event on the occasion of the passing out ceremony of their sixth batch of cadets, and the inauguration of a modern Marine Workshop Training Facility which had been jointly developed with the support of MOL Chemical Tankers Pte. Ltd. (MOLCT).
The occasion was graced by the Shipping Minister of Bangladesh and attended by several other high ranking officials from Ministry, Shipping Department, foreign delegates including Tsuneo Watanabe, Managing Director of MOLCT with management staff of MOLCT and Unix Line Pte Ltd.
A letter of appreciation was presented by the Minister to the Managing Director of MOLCT recognizing MOLCT’s contribution and support in providing employment opportunity and high quality training for Bangladeshi seafarers.
IMA has been set up in 2009 with initiative taken by Haque & Sons Ltd to meet Industry demand for quality seafarers. Unix Line, a 100% subsidiary of MOLCT, as in-house Ship Manager has been providing technical collaboration to IMA, sponsoring 30 cadets yearly, having trained 116 cadets since 2009, many of them are already sailing on board as Junior Officer.
Unix Line started recruiting and training Bangladeshi crew since 2001 and have developed a pool of well qualified chemical tanker crew pool of over 600 with dedicated collaboration from Haque & Sons Ltd.
Along with other established manning sources, MOLCT plans to increase pool of qualified seafarers from Bangladesh having high potential to meet their envisaged fleet expansion.
